What Our Champions Say
"That's what inspired me and connected me with this mission. It starts with good leaders. I wish when I was younger that I had these female role models to follow. Someone who brought me hope through my journey, someone to look up to, someone who would be proud of what I did. I feel blessed and happy to be where I am but I wonder how the journey would have been having a role model who I could identify with."

Diana Flores
Flag Football World Champion
"Women need to coach girls flag football. We need to build up the whole ecosystem of women coaching."

Steve Young
Former Champion NFL Quarterback
FAQ
What if I've never coached before
Don't worry! Our Leadership Academy provides comprehensive training to help you feel confident and prepared. You'll also be guided by experienced mentors who will support you throughout your journey.
Does this program cost money to apply and/or participate in?
There is no cost to apply. If accepted, participants are asked to invest a $200 program commitment fee. This fee helps support the leadership training, mentorship, and resources provided throughout the program. We offer generous scholarships and are committed to ensuring cost is never a barrier to participation. If the fee presents a challenge, we encourage you to apply and request support.
How will this experience benefit my future career?
Coaching youth sports with WCA will help you build essential leadership skills like communication, teamwork, and problem-solving. You'll also gain valuable experience that will set you apart in any future career path.
What if I wasn’t that great at sports?
You don't need to be an all-star athlete to make a difference. Your passion, enthusiasm, and willingness to lead and inspire younger athletes are what matter most. We'll provide the tools and support you need to excel as a coach.
Is this a job or an internship?
This is a paid coaching opportunity as part of WCA’s leadership development program. Coaches receive hourly pay (at minimum wage) for their time during the season. Prefer volunteer hours instead? Coaches can choose to opt out of pay and receive documented volunteer hours for their coaching experience. Either way, you’ll gain valuable leadership experience while making a meaningful impact in your community.
How long is the program?
The Coach Today, Lead for Life program is designed to be completed over two coaching seasons, with additional leadership development taking place between seasons. The initial commitment is one full coaching season (typically 8–10 weeks). During the season, participants coach 1–2 practices per week plus games, and participate in weekly mentor check-ins. Between seasons, coaches continue their leadership development through program content, reflection, and engagement designed to deepen their growth. Completing both seasons and all program components is the pathway to becoming a WCA Certified Coach.
What kind of subjects does coach training cover?
WCA’s Leadership Academy combines positive youth development with leadership training to prepare coaches for real-world leadership. Coaches learn how to lead teams, communicate effectively, build trust, and create positive environments for young athletes. Grounded in WCA’s leadership pillars—learning by doing, building confidence through practice, and leading through relationships—these skills extend far beyond the field.
